Form IEPF-5
What it is
IEPF-5 is the form used to claim shares or dividends back from the Investor Education and Protection Fund.
Filing it is not the whole process. The claim then has to be verified by the nodal officer at the company whose shares they were, before the authority acts on it — which is why these claims involve two parties rather than one.
When you need it
Shares or dividends have been transferred to the IEPF and you are entitled to claim them.
You are claiming as the legal heir of someone whose holding went to the fund.
A previous IEPF claim was rejected and is being refiled after the underlying issue was corrected.
When you don’t
The holding is still on the company's own register — that is an ordinary claim through the registrar.
You have not yet confirmed whether a transfer to the IEPF actually happened. Confirming that comes first, because filing the wrong route costs months.
