Client Master List
What it is
A Client Master List is a statement from your depository participant confirming the details held against your demat account — name, address, bank mandate, PAN and the account's DP and client IDs.
Registrars ask for it because it is independent confirmation that the demat account you want shares credited to genuinely belongs to you, with details that match.
When you need it
You are dematerialising physical certificates and the registrar needs to confirm the destination account.
An IEPF claim is being filed — shares are released in electronic form, so the account has to be verified.
A registrar has queried a mismatch between your folio details and your demat account.
When you don’t
You do not yet hold a demat account. One is generally needed before shares can be released, and opening it comes first.
The matter concerns only unpaid dividends being credited to a bank account.
