Unclaimed Bank Deposits

Fixed deposits and savings accounts that stopped being used and were eventually classed as inoperative.

In short

An account that goes unused for long enough is classified as inoperative, and the balance is eventually moved to a fund held by the central bank. The money remains claimable — the classification is administrative, not a forfeiture.

What it changes is who you deal with and what they need. We establish where the account sits now, what the bank requires to release it, and run the claim.

Does this describe you?

If one of these sounds familiar, this is the right page.

  • A fixed deposit nobody renewed
  • An account left behind after moving city or country
  • Accounts discovered after a death in the family
  • A passbook with no recent entries

What we do

Our side of the work, in the order it happens. You are not asked to chase any of it.

  1. We establish which bank and branch holds it Including where branches have since merged or closed.
  2. We confirm what the bank requires Reactivation and release requirements differ between banks.
  3. We prepare the claim and identity documentation
  4. We follow it through the bank's own process

What you may need

Indicative, not a checklist to complete before contacting us. Missing paperwork is normal and is part of what we sort out.

  • Passbook, statement or account numberWhatever survives.
  • Identity and PAN
  • Death certificate and proof of entitlementWhere claiming as an heir.

Where this usually gets stuck

Knowing these in advance is most of the reason cases move faster with help.

  • Bank branch mergers and closures over the years mean the branch named on an old passbook frequently no longer exists. The account does; establishing where it moved to is part of the work.

Questions people ask

Does the bank keep the money?

No. It is transferred to a fund and remains claimable by the depositor or their heirs.

The branch has closed. Is the account gone?

No. Accounts follow branch mergers, and tracing where it now sits is a normal part of the process.
